Hydraulic Adhesion Testers

The Hydraulic Adhesion Tester measures with ease and precision the adhesion bond strength of applied coatings. It is one of the most accurate & versatile manual adhesion testers available today.

The adhesion is measured by the tensile pull on a Dolly glued to the coating surface. The force is applied through the centre of the Dolly by a hydraulically loaded pin ensuring an exact central point loading of the force. Adhesion values are recorded by a pressure gauge giving a 1:1 pressure reading.

This testing equipment offers effective quality control with a non-destructive capability and can be tested on both external & internal surfaces of pipes.

Supplied with 5 Flat Dollies, Adhesive, Dolly Remover & Carrying Case. Complies with ISO 8780-5, ISO 787/16, ASTM D 332 & ASTM D 387

The Automatic Unit features an electronically controlled hydraulic pump which automatically applies smooth and continuous pull-off pressure at a user-specified rate.

The Manual Unit features a heavy-duty manual hydraulic pump designed to apply smooth and continuous pull-off pressure with a single stroke.

Cross Hatch Cutter
Available in 2 sizes (1mm and 2mm), allows an assessment of the adhesion resistance of coatings to separation from substrates when a right-angled lattice pattern is cut into the coating and penetrates through to the substrate.

Can be used on multiple coatings. Precision-ground, hardened tool steel cutting blades with 6 cutting sides so when 1 cutting side becomes blunt there are a further 5 cutting sides to use.

Directions for use: Make one cutting pass through to the substrate. This makes 6 cuts in the coating. A second pass at 90º makes a square lattice pattern. Apply Adhesive Tape over the cut lattice section & within 5 minutes remove tape. Classify the cut area with a Viewing Lens according to the relevant national standard classification guide.

The low surface energy of many polymer-based substrates often leads to poor adhesion of inks, glues and coatings. To obtain optimum adhesion, it is often necessary to increase the surface energy of the substrate to just above that of the material to be applied. Corona Treatment Equipment, Plasma Treatment Equipment and Flame Treatment Equipment all give good treatment levels and result in good wetting of the material over the surface of the substrate and so improves surface energy.

We offer 5 corona treatment solutions:
1. Rotating Electrode; This universal corona treatment system operates with special rotating corona electrode elements resulting in complete and uniform corona treatment of the parts. It offers a cost-effective method for optimising the adhesion properties of printing inks and coatings onto 3D parts made from low surface energy polymers such as polypropylene and polyethylene.

2. Fixed Electrode; This versatile system operates using a wide range of electrode systems ranging from simple "wire" electrodes, high performance "ball" electrodes or highly durable ceramic electrode elements resulting in complete and uniform corona treatment. Fixed electrode corona treatment systems can incorporate air jets to support the feed of parts through the corona treating station.

3. Spot Treater; This corona treatment unit creates a high voltage, low frequency corona discharge to treat the surface of 3-dimensional moulded or extruded plastic parts, profiles, webs, containers, etc. An airflow presses the corona discharge towards the substrate to be treated and a counter electrode is not necessary.

4. Narrow Web Treater; This system is designed for the corona treating of conductive and non-conductive narrow webs, labels etc. This type of corona treating system can be supplied to treat either one or both sides of the web and will accommodate widths from 100-500mm, running at production speeds of up to 150m/min.

5. Wide Web Treater; This corona treatment system is designed for the flexible packaging and printing industries and offers increased surface energy on webs manufactured from a variety of materials including; paper, plastic, metalised film and foil. The compact design of the corona discharge unit enables the equipment to be easily installed into new or existing extrusion, printing, coating and laminating lines.
